A parable is a story that teaches us something important. Some people say that the parables in the Bible are “earthly stories with heavenly meanings”.
Parables are FICTION (that means they don’t tell about things that actually happened), but the things we can learn from them are TRUE.
How do we know if a story is a parable?
Bible Parables:
- Are short stories
- Contain human characters in everyday situations
- Make us think and use our imaginations
- Teach us an important lesson about God’s kingdom
Why did Jesus tell so many parables?
Jesus had a lot of important news about the Kingdom of God that he wanted to share with people who were ready to understand it. But not everybody was ready or able to. After Jesus told a parable, he would help his disciples figure it out. He will help all of us who want to understand.
