Stick (verb): to adhere or cling to; to remain in a place; to bind, unite

Post-it notes are my favorite office supply. I have tiny neon ones, white poster-sized ones, star-shaped ones, heart-shaped ones, and ones of every color and size in between. I use the lined ones for grocery lists, reminders, bookmarks, and notes to my friends.
And what about Velcro? Donāt we all use it to hold together shoes, jackets, backpacks, and hundreds of other things in our lives? Someone figured out that hooks and loops pressed together can create a bond strong enough for attachments even on space shuttle supplies.
These might be kind of silly examples, but we really do depend on them.
We need things to stick.
We need people to stick.
And even more importantly, we need God to stick.
In Genesis 28, Jacob learns that God is going to stick with him. In a dream, God reveals to Jacob that he intends to give the land he is sleeping on to him and his descendants. He promises to stay with Jacob and protect him. To bring him back home (verses 13-15).
Jacob woke up, and in verse 16 he says, āGod is in this placeātruly. And I didnāt even know it!ā
He didnāt know it because he was preoccupied with his guilt and fear and exhaustion. He had deceived his father and cheated his brother. He was on a lonely journey, searching for a wife and sleeping on the hard, cold ground with a rock for a pillow.
And God understood. He loved Jacob, and he had a better plan for him.
He does that for us too.
He looks past all our distraction, right into our hearts. He finds us where we are and lets us know that he is with us.
Even when we mess up.
Even when we forget about him.
Even when we are running away from him.
Even when we donāt really expect him to show up.
He sticks with us to the end.
Invite Him In
Cling to God. He will be faithful to you no matter what is going on in your heart. Feeling guilty? Fearful? Lonely? Discouraged? Running in a thousand different directions? He is right there with you. Sticking with you, keeping his promises to youāwhether you realize it or not. Let him hold you close today.
